Jackson, Mississippi
Jackson was founded by a French-Canadian trader Louis LeFleur. Jackson is situated on the historic Natchez Trace trade route and in 1821 Jackson was officially the permanent capital of the state. Jackson is officially named so for the 7th President of the United States, Andrew Jackson. In the 1960’s Jackson was a central hub of the civil rights movement. In other news, the first successful lung transplant from a cadaver was performed at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.
